STONE COLD GROOVE
At full strength, STONE COLD GROOVE are an awesome 8-piece Soul/Funk band founded by soul vocalist, writer, composer, producer and all round “this-is-how-you-move-people’s-souls-and-bones” artist, Mr. Alexander!
STONE COLD GROOVE’s music stomps tirelessly on a foundation of FUNK, insulated with the purest of SOUL, furnished with the hardest of ghetto BEATS and customised GROOVE twisted in with some shit you ain’t never heard before!!
STONE COLD GROOVE are influenced by a wide range of genres such as Soul, Blues, Hip Hop, Reggae and Dancehall, Latin and Rock! Their influences range from Stevie Wonder to Michael Jackson, Donny Hathaway to Mantronix, Jamirouquai to Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jimi Hendrix to D’Angelo, even Beanie Man to Nas! Mr. Alexander himself has been compared in terms of vocal ability and songwriting prowess to greats such as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Prince and Ray Charles, just to name a few!
HISTORY:
Stone Cold Groove was founded by Mr. Alexander in October of 2006.
After being stuck in artist limbo for over 3 years due to a bad contract that he couldn’t get out of, Mr. Alexander decided his heart and soul and, indeed, the next stage of his musical evolution lay within the purity of live music. He called on his most trusted and talented friends to join the band and help to find the remaining musicians needed to form a full band. Our gritty, yet soulful and funked-out sound ensures the originality of this bizarre and tasty band!
Mr Alexander himself has enjoyed successes in his solo career such as:
- 1st british unsigned artist ever to sing at the U.S.grammy Music Awards (Los Angeles), courtesy of the late James Brown,
- Sung alongside Eve and Deborah Cox at Miami fashion Week catwalk show (South Beach, Miami),
- Appeared on The Trevor Nelson Show on BBC2,
- Performed at the world-renowned Ronnie Scotts Jazz club,
- Released solo album called “Friday Night Till Monday Morning” which sold in the UK, U.S., Japan and Germany to name a few!
Our 1st band name was “AYLA”, named after Nicole Ferraz’s beautiful baby girl, who was born around the same time the band was born! We jointly agreed to change the name after we all became utterly sick of hosts and promoters calling us “The AYLA band”!! We voted and agreed on the name “Stone Cold Groove” as it says exactly what we do!
Our 1st gig was in Plan B in Brixton, London, courtesy of the Soul promotion, SOUL UNIQUE. We went on to twice support the U.S. Neo-Soul legend, ‘Music Soulchild’ at Shepherd’s Bush Empire consecutively for 2 years. STONE COLD GROOVE went on to play renowned London venues such as Jazz Cafe, Kensington Roof Gardens, 93 Feet East, Brixton JAMM, and over 100 other venues and events.
In 2011, STONE COLD GROOVE are releasing their debut EP, entitled “KISSY KISSY FEELY FEELY pt. 1″, which includes their 1st single “Don’t Watch That”, the amazing cover “Don’t Stop The Music” and their acoustic blues balled taken from SCG’s 1st video, “Call It A Day”.
